Stand-up pouches, zipper pouches or rollstock?
Compare stand-up pouches, zipper features and rollstock around filling, display and use before preparing your packaging brief.
These are not three exclusive categories
A stand-up pouch describes a pack format; a zipper describes a closure; rollstock is material supplied for further packing. A stand-up pouch can also have a zipper. For a clear quotation, describe the shape, closure and filling method together.
When considering stand-up pouches
If standing display is a priority, begin with dimensions, gusset and fill weight. Share the product or a reference sample, then assess presentation using a filled sample. An empty-pouch image alone is not enough to judge how the finished pack will look.
When considering a zipper
Discuss a zipper when users need to reopen and reclose the pack. Consider its position, handling space and pouch opening alongside the filling process. For food, reclosing does not by itself establish storage life after opening; the brand should confirm product-specific instructions.
When considering rollstock
For rollstock, the packing machine is an important part of the brief. Provide film width, reel specifications and artwork requirements for review. When comparing it with premade pouches, consider your operating setup, equipment, labour and the proposed trial plan.
